1. Why do you think Luke began the account of Jesus' public ministry with this particular story?
2. Read Isaiah 61:1-2. Compare Isaiah with what Jesus says in Luke 4:18-19? Why might Jesus have read just v:1-2. Why do you think he left certain parts out?
3. How do you think the people felt who heard Jesus' words in verses 21-22? Do you think when people said “isn’t this Joseph’s son” they said it with skepticism or relational pride? Note: scholars agree that that we can't hear tone in the text so even they are unsure.
4. Why do you think the people’s option of Jesus changed from being amazed to wanting to kill him?
